Far West Coast - January 2011 (Part 2)

We departed Fowlers Bay for our journey to Yalata (The Granites) at 11am Wednesday morning.
After a quick lunch at the Nundroo road house we headed for the Coombra Track which would lead us to our camp site at 'The Granites'.

We had to get our compulsory photo at the camel, kangaroo and wombat sign.

On our first and seconds day of fishing, there were plenty of oversize mullet in supply before the cool change rolled in ready to settle for the week.

This was the typical sized mulloway which was caught through out our stay at Yalata.This fish was caught using the head half of a salmon trout.

On our last days fishing we fished a hole about a kilometer west of the Granites camp site. It looked like the best hole we had fished in for the week. It reminded us of Geues Hole.

There was no end to the strong southerly winds according to the weather reports we had heard on the radio so we decided to head back to Adelaide 3 days early.

Far West Coast - January 2011 (Part 1)

We made our start for Fowlers Bay at 3:00am Sunday morning and arrive at 3:00pm ready for check in at the Eco Lodge.

We were greeted by gale force S/E winds which is the norm. for Fowlers Bay.
Ken met us at Fowlers Bay jetty which he fished for a few hours before we arrive and only managed to land a few rock cod and trumpeters which seem to be kens specialty.

This is a video of some of the sand dunes we had to get over in order to get to Scotts Beach.

We estimated their weight to be around 25lb, they measure 90cm.

The next day we concentrated on collecting some bait for the trip to Yalata. Glenn landed this nice 7lb salmon lure fishing with his Nitro Surf Assasin and Saltiga 4500 loaded with 20lb Saltiga Surf braid.

The water and weather conditions were perfect on the Tuesday.
